Mayor Richard Daley announced today that he’s running for his sixth term in 2007. It is my opinion that, assuming he wins reelection, he will step aside in 2009 to take over running the Chicago Olympic Organizing Committee, if Chicago is awarded the 2016 games.

Bill Daley is Richard Daley’s younger brother. He was Commerce Secretary in Clinton’s 2nd term, chairman of Al Gore’s 2000 campaign, and currently is the Midwest Chairman of JPMorganChase.
I mean, they call him “mayor for life” for a reason. I don’t see why he’d step down for that committee, when he could just appoint one of his bagillion cronies to do it.
As far as ever having a serious challenge, I think we’ll see a Kennedy lose in Cambridge before we see a Daley lose in Chicago (although I would LOVE to see the latter–can you think of a more corrupt political machine?)
